Art has always been an escape for me. A way to live inside my head and release stress. The act of creating art is very healing and therapeutic for me. I believe that even those who do not consider themselves artist can use art as a way to heal themselves mentally.

When I am frustrated or having a hard time focusing art can calm me down and help me relax and keep my head in one place.

I think that sometimes artists have a hard time keeping all their thoughts organized and not letting them overwhelm them.

Even if you only have 15 minutes to spare, try creating something original today. It will only help.

Love Joy Peace,

Since we adopted Snickerdoodle my life has improved. I didn't know that I was missing anything until we brought him home. He has made me much more active since he needs to go on a walk a couple times a day. I really love they way he is so excited when I get home. I know that no matter what I do he will love me. Even when we gave him a haircut and he got really grumpy, he only took a minute to get over it and start loving us again.

What person would forgive you after only a minute?

Snickers knows how to calm me down and I know he is always up for some cuddle time when I'm feeling lonely or sad.

And of course as a good doggie parent I take plenty of pictures of him and love to show his cuteness off to everyone. Look at that little face how could you not love him?
What do you love most about your dog?

Love Joy Peace,

Sometimes the simplest ideas are the hardest to follow through with. Although most people agree that to live in the moment will lead to more joy than constantly thinking about the past and worrying about the future they don't actually live in the moment.

Living in the moment means turning off cell phones when you are spending time with a friend, thinking about what you are doing while you are doing it, and quitting creating scenarios about the future.

Remember, what is going to happen will happen so stop wasting your life planning every detail and rerunning your memories.

Love Joy Peace,

While I am at home on the weekends I usually listen to pandora while cleaning and web surfing. I love music but I hardly ever know the name of the song I'm listening to or the name of the band. This song started playing and I had to take a minute to listen to the song a few more times and really think about the lyrics. This isn't a new song and I have heard it many times, but today this song really was meaningful to me. I hope you enjoy it too.
Have a great weekend!

Happiness would seem to be a very easily understood emotion. Everyone knows when they are happy and most people can tell when others are happy too. But what is it that really makes us happy?

I watched the movie Happy this morning and I thought it was really interesting. I took some notes during the movie and thought I would share them with you.

-aerobic exercise can increase happiness by releasing dopamine

-Flow: pushing yourself to you limits

-performing acts of kindness is one of the best ways to increase your happiness.

-Once you have basic needs met money doesn't make a difference in happiness

- Denmark is the happiest country in the world

-Caring about things bigger than yourself is a huge factor

-Count your blessings

-Close family and friends was found in every person that had high levels of happiness

-Important factors: play, new experiences, friends and family, doing things with meaning
It was said in the movie that only ten percent of our happiness depends on our income, where we live, the home we have, and status. Why is it that those are the things most people focus on the most? Why would we care about those things so much, but then when asked what is truly important to us the overwhelming answer is "to be happy."

It was said that the biggest difference between people that are happy and people that are not happy is whether they focus on things intrinsically or extrinsically.

Extrinsic  = money, image, status
Intrinsic = personal growth, relationships, sense of community

People that who value money, image, and status were found to be much less happy than people who value personal growth, relationships, and community. So let's start focusing on Intrinsic goals.

People who were able to be thankful for what they were given rather than be mad about what they don't have were much happier. It didn't matter that they lived in a shack, to them they were thankful that they had that shack to live in.

The people of Bhutan recently realized that happiness is really what should be the most important thing to the country and to the people. The governments main goal is to raise the GNH, the Gross National Happiness.

For the next week try to raise your happiness levels and the happiness of the ones around you. This should be easy.

Start with these three tasks:

1. Count your blessings
2. Spend time with your family and friends
3. Perform acts of kindness.

Love Joy Peace,

There will always be something or someone to blame for having a stressful and chaotic life. The only person that the blame should go to is yourself. If you learn to let things go and to find peace within yourself than no one else can disturb your peace.

Everyone needs to find a way to relax themselves and to find the calmness that we all need once in awhile. For me I use art as a way to escape from others and find the peace within myself. Others find meditation relaxing, or reading, or even just talking a walk can be a way to find peace.

Don't be afraid to take some time for yourself and find what you like to do to relax and take your mind off of the stressful world we live in.

Love Joy Peace,

Every minute of your life can be enjoyed. You can learn to love event the hard times. Remember it is the hard times that make the good times even better. So be in love with your life.

Love Joy Peace,

I get angry, everyone does, but if you think about it this way you can stop and realize that each minute of your life can be controlled by you. Why wouldn't you rather be living in peace instead of anger. It does seem like many people are living in anger rather than choosing to live in peace.

This graphic was inspired by the weather here in Portland. It is so dark and gloomy outside. It does get to me, but I have decided to live with joy always. Without the gloomy days I wouldn't appreciate the sunny spring days that are coming. Since I live in an area that has very defined seasons each season is something to look forward to and you don't get tired of having the same weather everyday.

Remember it is always a choice to live with peace instead of anger and with joy instead of sadness.

Love Joy Peace,

I won't give up on us.

Sometimes a song comes on at just the right time. Sometimes you know that you really need to listen to the words.
Too often do people take the easy road and just give up on what they have because it gets tough.

When people have a relationship with someone that is very different from them it is easy to focus on what separates you rather than what has brought you together in the first place.

This line really goes right to my heart, "Our differences they do a lot to teach us how to use the tools and gifts we got..."

My fiance and I are very different people, we have different interests, different political views, different religious views, and were brought up differently. The thing that brings us together is the way we feel about each other and our core values. We have very similar hearts and that is something that will never change.

As we grow together we will also find we have more similarities than we think. Each time I begin to think it is just too hard and maybe it would be easier to be with someone else I listen to this song and realize that what I want in life is not for everything to be easy, what I want is the crazy, sometimes annoying love that only he can give me.

So remember, love isn't about being the same and having things be easy. Love is a matter of the heart that doesn't always make sense, but if it is right you will never give it up.

Free Printable

Here is a free printable just for you! Just print it out and put it somewhere you will see it often. Tape it to your monitor at work or save it to your desktop. Give it to someone that you think it might help.
Things go wrong, things happen differently than you imagine in your head. There is never going to be a time when your life is perfect and everything is settled. If you live in hopes of finally figuring it out you will never be happy. The way to figure it all out is to realize that life doesn't have to be perfect for you to be happy. If you learn to laugh at the mistakes and enjoy the little blessings that you have, you will find out that it is easy to be happy.
